Ubuntu Awards Dinner, CTICC (2016 & 2017)
On both occasions this prestigious gala dinner was held at the CTICC (Cape Town Convention Centre), hosted by President of SA, Jacob Zuma in 2016 and the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane in 2017.
Launched by DIRCO (The Department of International Relations and Cooperation), this annual event celebrates South African citizens who play an active role in projecting a positive image of South Africa internationally. Over 800pax diplomats and celebrities were invited to celebrate winners in 8 categories:
1. Ubuntu Economic Diplomacy Award (Africa)
2. Ubuntu Economic Diplomacy Award (Global)
3. Ubuntu Social Responsibility Award
4. Ubuntu Arts and Cultural Diplomacy Award (Veteran) - Public Vote
5. Ubuntu Arts and Cultural Diplomacy Award (Youth) - Public Vote
6. Ubuntu Sports Diplomacy Award
7. O.R. Tambo Lifetime Achievement Award in Diplomacy Award
8. O.R. Tambo Lifetime Achievement Award
The year 2017 marked the centenary of Oliver Tambo’s life. Therefore, the theme of the Ubuntu Awards “In his footsteps” recognised South African citizens who embody the principles of OR Tambo, namely: Integrity, Passion, Patriotism and Humility.
Formative Design designed and created beautiful set backdrops, top TV presenters Claire Mawisa & Bob Mabena were Programme Directors with Big Talk Productions providing extraordinary dance acts with Evolution Dance Company (EDC). Guests were treated to local entertainment such as Hugh Masekela, Mahotella Queens and Mi Casa.
Contracted as Front of House/Stage Manager I worked closely with all those involved on stage, scripts, awards and entertainment ensuring a smooth evening.
Award winners have included South African companies MTN, Sasol and Nandos, top Olympic athletes Caster Semenya, Wayde van Niekerk and Chad le Clos, DJ Black Coffee, Hugh Masekela Ambassador Billy Modise, Mme Ruth Mompati, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, Siya Xuza, Pretty Yende and Chinese ambassador Xuejun Tian.
